eLAB - Digital referral system
eLAB is a digital tool designed to simplify the manual tasks involved in medical referrals and sample handling. Initially conceived to replace traditional paper-based blood sample forms, it has since expanded to encompass various body analysis services. Within eLab, healthcare professionals can easily request sample collections, while ensuring thorough documentation for efficient analysis at the laboratory
My role in the eLab project involved improving its design and adapting it to meet changing requirements. Given the initial resource constraints, I focused on making the design more sustainable and adaptable. Recognizing a lack of understanding within the team regarding the product's full functionality, I prioritized mapping out the entire workflow using flowcharts to enhance clarity.
I undertook a comprehensive redesign of the product interface, aiming to improve usability while maintaining familiarity for users, many of whom preferred traditional methods over digital solutions. Balancing the need for continuity with the imperative of enhancing usability was a significant challenge.
The overarching goal of the project is to expand eLab's usage to every hospital and medical clinic in the Skåne region, serving over 50,000 users. This expansion aims to reduce errors, streamline analyses, and ultimately lower costs. Additionally, transitioning from paper-based referrals to digital processes contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing paper waste.
